Dream Job versus A Job

Some people are lucky and they love their jobs. They love going to work and can't believe they get paid to do it. It leaves you wondering 'why them and not me'? But there is a choice in all of this. You can just leave the dreaming for others and choose to face the daily grind or you can be a dreamer and chase your passion. Both choices have good points and bad, here's what I think.

Suck it Up and keep Your Day Job
  • Because somebody needs to pay for electricity, gas, food etc. A struggling Actor won't pay the bills.
  • In the words of Obama 'A Great Education Helps to Create Ladders of Opportunity - a good education for your kids costs money.
  • You'll have a better chance at paying off the mortgage - if you live in Sydney selling your house when you retire leaves a far bigger nest egg than Super (retirement fund).
  • And if you have a big enough nest egg then you can finally chase your dreams.
  • It builds resilience to help battle adversities that may cross your path during the journey of life.
  • You learn that nothing comes easy and therefore take nothing for granted.
Chase Your dream
  • Many struggling actors have lived on next to nothing, some of them eventually rising to prominence leading to extreme wealth (and the ability to pay all kinds of bills).
  • Speaking of Obama, if he didn't chase his dream he wouldn't be President right?
  • I knew somebody who had their mortgaged paid off by the time they were 29 but tragically died months later.
  • You could work hard in a thankless job until retirement but at age 65 you don't have the same zing you used to. Aches and pains plague your aging body and you generally slow down. How then do you take life by the horns and live it like there ain't no tomorrow.
  • There are many incredible people who have done amazing things in their lives because they took chances http://www.budbilanich.com/50-famous-people-who-failed-at-their-first-attempt-at-career-success/
At the end of the day I think you need to be hungry for it if you want to chase your dreams. Most will have a hobby on the side and keep there day job. Nothing wrong with that. What's right for some may not be right for others.
